Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, Jan. 18, 2007 – MDT today announced development of new generation, ultra-small (81mm2), and very low cost MD770R RFID reader module using new architecture approach that could be utilized on mobile phones and PDA products seamlessly.

ImageMD770R reader module is much smaller and consumes less power than typical reader module. MDT hopes that this ultra low cost, mini-sized reader module will help enable the mass deployment of RFID technology in the customer markets.

Significant size reduction at the module level, accompanied by a substantial performance enhancement, could play a crucial role in delivering future platforms to mobile users by allowing an increased number of features and capabilities. Considerably less energy used could add significant battery life for mobile devices.

“The results of this research reinforce our confidence in being able to achieve the vision of every mobile phone/devices with built-in RFID scanner by 2008. As was the case with other MDT technologies advancements, we expect these new reader module will enhance the future of mobile applications,” said Liew Choon Lian, Chairman and CEO of MDT Group of Companies. “This new module will give us considerable flexibility because we will have ability to optimize for both performance and integration of future platforms.”

Researchers from MDT have previously announced mini-reader with module’s length size of 20mm (MD700R) on July 2006. The MD770R reader module being announced today, with a length size of 9mm x 9mm, is the smallest ever, at less than half the size of those disclosed earlier. This is the first time that this architecture enhancement has been demonstrated.

The reader module has been successfully applied for the Japan Patent in 2006. Application for global patent is still pending.

MDT, the world leader in RFID innovation, develops technologies, products and initiatives to continually provide better mobile communication application.
